Looks like I might be bringing a camper. It's a popup. So it should be fine at the group camp area.

Our canoe has three seats so you can ride with us if you want or I'm not sure if the girlfriend is going to canoe or not, she has something going on that afternoon and may or may not make it to canoe that afternoon. Either way you can play bartender.

Matt, I would like to drop my camper off at the park before canoeing. I have a feeling I will get a little saucy on the canoe ride, and don't know if I feel comfortable pulling the camper after that. Do you know what time we can set our units on that site? I am guessing no one will be camping there friday night, so we should be good on saturday morning sometime.

Also, how many canoe people and canoes do we have? If I need to get a tube for the ride, I should be looking into that before thursday.

Tim, we do not have the campsite reserved Friday night so it does not become officially ours until 3:00 PM. So far no one has Friday night reserved so it will most likely be open before then. I will check with the powers that be if it will be OK for us to set up prior to 3:00 if it remains open. I am guessing it will be OK.

Weather channel says high of 87 F and low of 66 F with a 10% chance of rain so far. KCRG says high 84 F and low of 66 F with a chance of Friday showers lingering in to early Saturday. If that holds up, and we know it won't, that would be great.

Here is the list of participants so far. For this group we will use 5 canoes unless someone wants to tube instead. Also, let us know if you don't want to paddle and would prefer to be a passenger only.

I will haul two canoes on my vehicle, Jim F will stop by my place that morning and we will fit two on his vehicle. Looks like Randy may be carrying one too or Kurt, will you be carrying one? We need a life jacket for each passenger too. You don't have to wear it, just needs to be in the boat. I have seven so far.

Current Float Trip Group
4 – hour canoe trip - 5 canoes(or maybe some tubes too)
-Matt F
-Randy
-Jim F
-Kurt
-Michelle
-Jeremy
-Adam D
-Tim
-Damon
-JJ

Possible additions to the canoe group
-Friend of Adam
-Ben K

I have two life jackets that I will bring. Are the canoes at your place Matt, or somewhere else? You can still count me as a back-up for one canoe if no one else can transport the 5th.

I can either be a paddler or passenger, or will rotate with someone.

As far as life jackets go, would it be ok to just use the empty growlers from the morning. We could just cap them full of air and use them as water wings! 8)

With the river being high, I would suggest everyone have a lifevest.

Don't get too worried. You can wade most of this stretch until you get to slower water backed up by the dam in Central City near the park. It is safe when the water measures 9 ft. or below at the USGS site in Independence.

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ia/nwis/uv?05421000

It peaked this week at a little over 7ft. and as of today is below 6ft. Unless we get a gusher before Saturday, you will be able to stand in most parts of the river. That being said, if you can't swim, you may want to wear a life jacket. I know I throw mine on when the water is high. The law says you need one in the boat for each passenger.

2010 Beer Camp

Post by JimPotts »

Back at summer camp, I actually got pushed under a tree sticking into the water by the canoe when we swamped, and the vest actually pulled me out.  It quite probably saved my life.

I have a three person canoe and plenty of extra lifevests for boating. How many people need a tube? I'll be picking up the tubes later this week.
