Wow, what a blast! I'm still in a state of shock (or slightly hung over) over the amount of beer we went through! Did anyone have any left at the end? I think we served more beer than any other station at the event.
It was interesting that the less common beers were the ones people seemed to be requesting the most. The bacon porter went crazy for a while, as did the two meads. I think my apricot wheat went fast because we served it right after John's peach mead. People probably thought it sounded similar.
I also talked to several people who will hopefully join the group. A couple of people were already homebrewers and a few others were looking to learn about it.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for a good time everyone!

Everyone, I just wanted to echo what Randy said. It was the best event yet. I think that this is the most important event we do as this is the only big event we do in Cedar Rapids, and after all we are the Cr beer nuts. There was a great turn out, it was in our home town and we had an awesome lineup of beer!
I spoke with Matt from Benz and he agreed we probably had the largest following out of all the vendors and created a huge draw. Furthermore I really thought we had over kill for the amount of beer we brought but as we found it was barely enough! That just goes to show how much demand there was for our home brew!!
I want to thank everyone again for bringing beer, I can't believe how generous this club is both in the fact they gave their home brew away but many of you gave your time as well. We did get a small donation from Benz but know your contributions of time and beer were way above and beyond and want to thank all of you for making the club look like rock stars at the fest!
Because of this event not only are we becoming a known entity in the cedar rapids area, but for those that know us realize that we are a quality home brew club and our beer and services are something to be desired at many events.
Thank you all again, cheers,
Travis

I agree this event was a great success.
I would also like to thank everyone who showed up and help serve and promote the clubs interests. I saw that our sign up list was already full by half way through the event, which was good to see. We really are starting to make a great showing at these events and build a name for ourselves synonymous with quality brewing. I also believe with the addition of our technical meetings and other actions current under way that we are building and strengthening our foundations as a quality brewing club, not just social brewers.
I really think we need to shoot for 60 - 70 gallons next year for the Benz festival, probably for the IFOB as well. In addition, we should probably start a request list for some of the beers that people really liked. There were several that came up asking for Big T's Mountain Dew Beer also, and I can't remember who brewed it, but there were several requests for a coffee stout that was available last year. These might be items to consider a re-brew of in addition to all the other great line ups we offer for next year. All I can say is that I am sad that this year’s event is already gone and I have to wait another whole year before doing it again.
Another issue I would like to bring up is that of the newcomers that will be at this Thursday’s meeting. Let’s all please try to do our best to welcome the newcomers at the social meeting. I know that I have personally been overwhelmed by the numbers of new people sometimes after the events that show up at the next meeting. I have seen this cause a splinter effect in the past with the older club members and newcomers kind of ending up in two separate groups at the meeting and the newcomers feeling less then welcome. So let us all please try to keep that in mind and be welcoming to those that show at the meeting, as we were all newcomers at one point or another to the club.
We have three more potential events coming upon us shortly. The National Homebrew Conference (NCH), Independence Brew-BBQ, and the Iowa Festival of Beers (IFOB); I hope that all of you will support these upcoming events and start brewing now for these. We have always had a good showing at the IFOB, however, last year we were shown up a little by the other clubs; not so much in the quality of our beer but by the other clubs serving and promotional items (tap systems, quality banners ect…). I would really like to see our club push the limits of our serving capacity and promotional items this year, so that we can compete with the other Iowa clubs on all levels, not just in the quality of our beer (which I need not say kicks their ass). So, if you have the means to help the CR Beer nut accomplish this goal I, I as well as the club appreciates your efforts. This was well demonstrated this year at Benz by Tom’s quality tap system. I was very impressed by the quality of his tap box and the work and dedication placed into it by Tom. If we had 2 more of these and a new banner, I think we could give the other clubs a run for their money this year at IFOB.
Cheers my brewing brothers,

Hey Matt, I'm heading out to the pool at my hotel here in West Palm Beach for some sun and a cocktail. It's in the mid-80s and super sunny today. So take that, b!tch!
