Scheras in Elkader

Post by Matt F »

This is a really unique restaurant with some good beer right on the river in Elkader, IA. They serve Algerian & American cuisine. I first saw them featured in the magazine "Iowa Outdoors" for mushroom recipes. They really like beer and have 12-16 beers on draft. Check out their menu for a list. Exceptional selection for the area. I find myself up there for canoe trips once the weather warms. Could be a great place to eat on a NE Iowa brewery tour.

I begged Mary and her mother to go there yesterday but was unsuccessful.  Instead we had a below average buffet.  Yes, their beer list is unbelievable for a town that size.  Why can't we have this in CR?!?!?

MF, I ride(motor bike) through there quite a bit… its much more of a Belgian inspired bar, and its Pricey.. but on a nice day you can sit out on the concrete slab and look at the old bridge and water, turtles etc. Just bring your wallet.

They have added more american micros lately. Two Hearted is usually on. Good food usually does cost good money. The thing I find with expensive food is it is usually worth the extra $5 to $10. If it is not worth the extra money, the place will close, especially in small town Iowa. Lincoln Cafe comes to mind. BYOB and awesome food!
