Just brewed a pale ale
Brewed a Pale Ale last night. Many folks have asked to stop by for a brew session. I will post here when I brew at a time where it is convenient for people to stop by for a brew session. I would like for people to come over but I have been brewing at odd hours. Last night I mashed in at 9 PM so it was a late night. Didn't help that I forgot to install the false bottom in the mastun before mashing in either.

It was an easy fix but time and labor intensive. I just let the mash rest with no false bottom and when I was ready to adjust the mash temp I scooped out the entire mash in to two 6 gallon buckets with a small pitcher. Then I dumped what was left in the mashtun after scooping and installed the false bottom. Then I put it all back in the mash tun and started recirculating through my heat exchanger/immersion chiller until I raised the temp where I wanted for an additional rest and then mash out. I was using the Can You Brew It Firestone Walker Pale 31 recipe except I used different hops. It required a really low mash temp at 145 F with an additional 10 minute rest at 155. My immersion chiller works really well for adjusting mash temperatures. I really like that addition to my brewery. My wort runs so clear by the time it is in the boil kettle and temperature adjustments are a piece of cake.
