Hop Rhizomes

Post by CMLarrison »

Is anyone willing to part with any hop rhizomes this year? Spring is here and now would be a good time to get them planted.

I'll check with Management and get back with you, but any evening this week should work fine.

I've have 2nd year cascade hops that I will be donating to club events, or whoever want to use them. My hops are growing like weeds, I have about a half a dozen vines above 10 feet so far.

I have two old cascades that I transplanted last year. I could get some off there. I just cut everything back to build a fence around the garden. It looked like a bush. Just need a time you can come grab them. It is a busy week with kids finishing up school.

Lee, are you going to be around the Memorial Day weekend? Maybe those of us seeking rhisomes could do a road trip and make a single visit?

I'd like to pick up a cutting off your Willamette, as mine did not winter over.

thanks

I'm leaving town for one week on Saturday morning (28-May).

If anyone wants rhizomes, it's better to do it either this week or else the first full week in June. I think Clint is stopping by tonight around 6. If anyone else can make it tonight, feel free to come by. Otherwise, since it only takes a few minutes to do it, just PM me. I'm available most nights from 6-8 pm or after 8:30 pm.

For all you folks contemplating starting hop plants, have I got a deal for you!

I just took down my gazebo on the deck. I think some of the frame pieces would make excellent trellises for your bines to climb. I have adapted one myself.

Here's some pix.

Let me know if you might be interested, as otherwise, it's off to the recycling center.

Here is an update of how my 2nd year cascade hops are doing so far this year. I'm already staring to get some buds starting to just pop up.

Over the weekend, with all the hot, humid weather, mine grew at least a foot and a half. Some of the bines have reached the top of the new frame in the above picture, which makes them about 14-15 ft off the ground.
