Possibly no more Shitty Barn Parties

Post by Matt F »

The Shitty Barn and Furthermore are now separate entities and Chris is no longer with Furthermore. Probably no more Shitty Barn Parties like the past, but looks like weekly concerts with a cash bar. Here is the email from Chris.

Well, well, well. The long, cold winter has given way to brutal summer-ish heat (which makes me nostalgic for a long, cold winter). Along with a sunburn and modest heatstroke, this seasonal shift brings with it some other changes in Furthermore Beer Land and Shitty Barn Land. En route to telling you all about the 2011 Shitty Barn June shows, allow me to shine a light on what's new in 2011:

Most notable to me (Chris) is that I am no longer involved with Furthermore Beer. As it became increasingly evident that FmB needed to be the best version of the existing business it could be (rather than spinning our wheels imagining what an awesome business it could be, if only...), it was obvious to me that cash-flow was the lifeblood of FmB. Because we sell everything we make, my role (Drummer-upper of Interest and Cruise Director) was sort of an odd one to prioritize. Combined with my strong desire to focus on both my physical and familial well-being, I decided to step sideways out of the line-of-beery-fire. All of that said, I remain a huge Aran Madden fan. You won't have to choose sides.

And yet, and yet... We sort of accidentally started this incredibly awesome thing: The Shitty Barn Sessions. And those of you who know me in the flesh, know that I'm the sort of guy who will approach a bloated roadkill raccoon with a sharp stick because I need to know what will happen if I poke it. And so I am poking away with gusto, damn you bet!

Here's the deal: The Shitty Barn is now a legally zoned and licensed stand-alone venue owned and operated by Your Truly, and Yours Truly's Much, Much Better Half. The Shitty Barn Sessions are brought to you courtesy of Furthermore Beer, Yahara Guitars, MJ Hecox, Sweeping Design and Erin Fuller Graphics. We will be hosting Barn Sessions every Wednesday From June 8th through sometime in October. We will also do a handful of Kiddy Barn Sessions and Weekend Rude Shows, as well as a Party (you'd have to imagine). And the big change: as a result of the licensing and higher profile of the events (as well as our desire to make SBS self-sustaining), we will now have a cash beer/wine/soda/water bar with bottled and canned products (a nod to the Health Inspector). Prices will be reasonable and you'll find your fave FmB seasonal brews on-hand, so change is not dramatic: we didn't want to freak you out or anything....

Aside from the organizational changes and cash bar, you'll find some nice improvements at The Barn. It's not so much that we've made it not shitty, but more like we've polished the turd, courtesy all sorts of people willing to donate goods and services to the cause (I will enumerate their virtues at a later date). You'll just have to come out to get your fill of awesome. Which leads me to June shows:

6/8 - Communist Daughter. Twin Cities. Redemption and renewal. It's going to be a beautiful night.
6/15 - Dinosaur Feathers. Brooklyn. If you think "Pet Sounds" belongs on top 10 lists, COME SEE THIS BAND!!!
6/22 - TBD. Gulp.
6/29 - .357 String Band. Milwaukee. These guys kick a monstrous amount of ass. Bluegrass for Punk Rockers.

Ok, TTFN,

Chris

I'm glad I got to partake in The Shitty Barn Parties we attended. I have some great, though blurry, memories. If I lived closer I would try to make to some of the new venues. Who knows, maybe sometime they'll do a Shitty Revival.
