2011 Iowa Festival of Beers

Post by tony b »

Believe it or not, the IFOB is already gearing up. We have to turn in our registration for this year's fest by this Friday.

For now, all we need to know is who is planning on donating beer (don't need to know what kind, name, etc. yet), just a simple head count. I have to turn in names for the 4 comp'ed passes with the registration.

I'm in, who else?

I'm game. I do it every year though, so if anyone new would like a shot let me know.

I'm in, I'm making a dry hopped Imperial weizen. If it totally flops, i'll have a backup plan. I don't need to bring a whole 5 gal if we need cap space. This festival is the one that's in my back yard, and I would like to represent.

I will donate 5 gallons, but like Tom, I have done it before so if someone new wants a shot I can sit it out.

Are we planning on taking 5 gals of the club RIS for this event? Just throwing it out there so management can plan accordingly.

Are we allowed 20 gallons or 25? I seem to remember last year it was 25.

It is 25 gallons. We are allowed five 1/6 barrel kegs.

All, as a side note were also looking at a smaller pouring and demo the day before the IA fest. Not to detour you at all from being part of this fest, but I just wanted to put it out there that there might be some further function that weekend that will allow others to participate, as well as the BrewBQ the weekend before as well. I’m hoping we have great participation for all, so spread your time accordingly, as its going to be a jammed pack week.

I've thought about making a mobile server and being a wandering beer minstral.

Tom - just wear a funky hat to go with it and you'll probably win the contest!

For those not there last year, there's a crazy hat contest.

Right now it looks like - Kent, Tom, Matt and me, with the Club RIS to make up the 5 cornies. If other folks want to participate, that's still cool. We could still do an hourly special of some growlers or bottles.

Even if you don't want to bring beer, come on out, it's a good time talking to all the other brewers.

Again, I would be happy bringing a half keg if someone wants to get involved.

OK regarding some of the things brought up in the last meeting, I think we definitely want to take the club tap box. I don't care if we only have 5 beers, this is the representation of the club, and we need to bring our game. Also, if we have more people that want to get involved, I like the idea of more variety, hourly tappings, and less volume of each. We can create our own demand by having special, limited, releases. I don't want to shut anyone out of participating.

anyway, my 2c

Agreed.  There's no reason not to max out the number of beers we bring
versus the volume.

I plan on being there, and I'll bring the bar.

Let's make sure that we've got all the other accessories covered, like CO2, chill plate, etc.

I'm happy to scale back my Octoberfest contribution to 3 gals to make room for an hourly special.
