From John's Grocery,

We just keep chugging along (no pun intended!)

Last year we had the worst weather possible for our 15th Annual Iowa City Brewfest, and we still managed to have over 1400 people out in the rain! This year we are putting that miserable day behind us (we still raised over $11,000 for the American Heart Association though!) and we are once again moving, this year to our own neighborhood!

I am very proud to announce that the Brewfest will be merging with the 1st Annual Northside Oktoberfest Celebration, and we could not be happier to bring our little festival to the rich brewing heritage of the Northside. So in addition to all of the great goings on for Brewfest, we will have the following new attractions to bring patrons to our neighborhood:

* Oktoberfest hours 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
* Main Stage with 7 different musical acts.
* Culinary Row with all 14 Northside Marketplace food vendors.
* 2 blocks of Linn Street blocked off featuring our Harvest Market with artist and farmers market, and local non-profit groups and organizations (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement, Churches, Service clubs like Optimist Clubs, Rotary, ect.).
* Soda Fest-just like Brewfest but for the young and young at heart who likes all different types of soda!
* Kids Music Stage
* Kids Take Away Crafts
* Kids Bicycle Rodeo

Brewfest details:

Brewmaster VIP only tasting:
* Runs 11:00 a.m. to noon.
* $40 ticket cost and only 400 tickets available
* Ticket holders will get: a nice commemorative crystal tulip glass, great prizes, and exclusive access to the big and rare beers.

Regular Brewfest:
* Runs from noon to 4:00
* We are limiting our attendance to 2500 this year.

I haven't been to the IC Brewfest for several years. Did anyone do the VIP tasting last year. Curious what kind of beers you enjoyed during that session and if you recommend it.

I didn't go last year, I am definitely attending. Not sure about the VIP. I can stop by John's and talk to the guy to get some more info about the VIP stuff.

I'll try to get clearance to go as well. I've missed it up until now. The VIP tasting looks intriguing.

I have done the "Brewmaster" ticket for the last two years and am doing it again this year. Last year John's and New Belgium had tents side by side. Went through 20 tickets in 40 minutes; bought ten more and finished in abot another 40 minutes. Decided to go home about one thirty because I heard they didn't show the Hawk's game in the Iowa City Pokey. Nice glass and a lot of high gravity beers that the general admissions don't get to try. I recommend the VIP ticket but get a DD.

Also, please feel free to pass along this email to your friends, family, coworkers, groups, etc and tell them what a good time volunteer for this event is….and you get a free tshirt!!!

The times/jobs we still need help with are:

Go Riders!

What time? Is it at your place or over by the stadium like last year?

Hoping to have it at the stadium again. We are trying to secure perfect game, but they have a tournament that weekend. I think we started at 3 last year.

Not just for Knot Stock anymore

Given that we can't get any Furthermore around here, I ran across the next best thing at the IA City Fest on Saturday for those who love their Knot Stock:

Empyrean Brewing's Four Roses Bourbon Aged Black Pepper Porter. It has all that clean black pepper flavor that we are in awe of with Furthermore, with the added bennie of being conditioned in a good bourbon barrel.

It was the find of the day!
