MUGZ Homebrew Competition - November 12th

Post by tony b »

MUGZ handed out flyers at IFOB yesterday announcing their 17th annual homebrew competition. This is an AHA sanctioned event. All categories, including ciders and meads, will accepted. They also have their "muddy water" category (??)

Entries will be accepted Monday, October 24th through Friday, November 4th. Drop off point will be announced soon on their website: http://www.mugzhomebrew.org

They are also looking for judges and stewards.

In addition, there is a label competition.

Is anyone entering beers in this? I kind of forgot about it and I dont want to pay for 2 day shipping to get them there in time, and with it being a busy week in work not sure if I'll make it up. Anyone making the trip want to take some tag-along entries? I'll pony up some free beer if there are any takers.

MUGZ Home Brew Competition - November 12th

In case anyone is interested it cost me $12 to mail my 3 entries via Fed Ex which i didn't think was too unreasonable. Did anyone else submit entries to this event?

MUGZ Homebrew Competition - November 12th

Clint, did they know you were shipping beer? I usually use UPS, I hear FedEx is a little more difficult.. and of course its considered a fed crime if you ship it through USPS.

I didn’t ship any to the event, but I did get invited to judge at it.

I always ship FedEx. I have an account, so I can label the boxes, and prepay for the shipping. When you do that, you just drop it off at fedex, no one has ever asked me what's in it.

MUGZ Home Brew Competition - November 12th

I had my entries for the most part wrapped up and were unrecogonizeable in a plastic sack/bubble wrap in case of breakage. Mugz has a section in the competition rules part of their website about the ATF shipping laws and methods for shipping entries to be judged. They also have in big bold letters that it is a federal crime to ship alcohol via USPS. I just made sure to read and follow all of the rules.

mugz home brew competition results

I got my results in the mail today and got third place in the Imperial IPA Category. This beer was a 10 gallon batch brewed with Mr. David Werner.

Ha Mr. David Werner, Not bad for a beer that I couldn't find the hops I thought I had for. We got another batch a brewing with the correct hops.
