October 20th Club Meeting Details
The October 2011 meeting of the Beer Nuts is on Thursday the 20th, starting at 7:00pm at the home of Randy and Michelle Carris near Stone City.
The address is 10502 246th Ave, Anamosa, IA 52205. Any of the online mapping tools should have no problem giving you directions, or if you use a GPS it should take you right here. See the map below. Here's directions:
From CR and Marion: Take Hwy 151 east towards Anamosa. About 3 miles past Springville look for Linn-Jones Rd. It's the next road after mile marker 47. Turn LEFT on Linn-Jones Rd. Drive a mile to Fairview Rd (it's a T intersection). Turn RIGHT on Fairview Rd. It's less than a ¼ mile to 246th Ave, which is on your left. There is a street sign and a post with RED reflectors marking the drive. You need to pay attention because it's easy to miss the driveway into the development.
From Hiawatha and Robins: Take County Home Rd East. Go past Hwy 13 and continue East. Go through Wittier and Viola. After Viola, County Home Rd becomes Fairview Rd. A bit over a mile past Viola you'll pass Linn-Jones Rd on the right. Keep going about ¼ mile to 246th Ave, which is on your lLEFT. There is a street sign and a post with RED reflectors marking the drive. You need to pay attention because it's easy to miss the driveway into the development.
From Mount Vernon, Solon, and I.C., Take Hwy 1 North to Hwy 151. (Note: on the map below the route takes you through Fairview, but that rd was closed this week.) Pass under 151 and turn LEFT onto Hwy 151 towards Marion. At just over a mile turn RIGHT onto Linn-Jones Rd then RIGHT again onto Fairview Rd It's less than a ¼ mile to 246th Ave, which is on your left. There is a street sign and a post with RED reflectors marking the drive. You need to pay attention because it's very easy to miss the driveway into the development.
If you get lost, call my cell phone at 721-2442.
Our house has a looped driveway. There's room for a number of cars, plus additional parking along the edges of 246th ave.
If the weather cooperates, we'll be meeting outside in our back yard. We'll have a nice fire going in our fire pit. I don't have a lot of fire wood, so if anyone can bring some that would be great. Lawn chairs are another item that would be nice.
The next food competition will also be judged at this meeting. The theme this time is Chicken Wings. Tony will post more info here about that.

That's a lot of arrows.
Randy's place is not too hard to find and really is not that far out of town. I know from my place on the SE side it takes the same amount of time as driving to the other side of CR.

As Randy noted, we're doing a food competition this meeting.
It's a WING DING!
So, whip up your best batch of chicken wings. Free Range - not necessarily the chickens, but your recipe. From woosie to "keel de white people" hot; however you like them. Breaded or not, grilled vs fried - ANYTHING GOES!!!
I would suggest that each entry bring at least 2 doz wings, so everyone gets to taste your creation.
Tasters' Choice voting again. With Special Bragging Rights to the cook that uses the most beer/beer ingredients in their sauce! Go CRAZY - Carapils/Simcoe crusted wings with Honey/Maple/Porter/Habanero glaze!!
To quote the Chairman on Iron Chef America - "Allez Cuisine!" (which is french for "cook me something tasty, bitches!")

Font page says Thursday, October 21st. May want to change that to Thursday, October 20. Another idea would to make a generic link on the front page that says something like "Next Meeting Click for Details" Then it will take you to the meeting page and the only thing that will need to be updated each month is the meeting announcement which should be at or near the top of the list. Then no one has to make sure to change it each month.

Also, don't forget that this meeting is the turn in for Octoberfest beers if you have one.
We will be picking the next set of beer styles for 2012 during the meeting.

We'll likely need that fire pit, as our balmy weather has decided to get real on us!
So, what do we do about it? Make hotter wings!!!
Speaking of our wing competition - for planning purposes, who's bringing wings? We need to know roughly so that we can make arrangements for chafing dishes, etc. to try and keep them warm.

UPDATE: For those coming north on Hwy 1, please note that County Rd E34 into Fairview is currently closed. You'll need to use Hwy 151 West/South towards Marion. After just over a mile turn right onto Linn-Jones Rd then right again onto Fairview Rd.
I'm going to set up a couple of tiki torches to help mark the lane leading into our loop. Hopefully that will make things easier in the dark.
Also, since it looks like it's going to be pretty cold, we'll plan on meeting inside. We can still light the fire pit if people want. The wings will keep warmer indoors anyway.

I would love a ride. I'm not really on the way, but it's an easy drive from my place to Randy's.
