November Tech Meeting

Post by carrisr »

We need to set the location and topic for the next Tech Meeting, Wednesday November 2nd at 8pm. I propose we do an either an Oktoberfest or Pumpkin Beer tasting unless someone has a better suggestion. Both styles are readily available right now. Oktoberfest ties best as that's the next competition style.

I'd also like to revisit the dates/time for future meetings. If you'd like to propose a new day/time let us know. The current schedule is the first Wednesday of each month at 8pm. I'll post a poll if needed, but right now I just want to know if this is working for most people or if we need a change.

So in summary I need two things:

1. November Tech Meeting Host
2. Is the current schedule OK for future meetings?

Also note: We won't have a December Tech meeting. That month is too crazy busy for most people.

I can host the Tech Meeting for November. An Octoberfest or Pumpkin tasting would work. I have 3 different Octoberfest beers on hand, Spaten, Ayinger & Sam Adams. I also have some Schlafly Pumpkin Ale so we could do either or both. My address is 314 Brentwood Dr NE.

What would we think of bumping the time up to 7, like the social meetings?

I actually would prefer that. The original time was set to give the host more time to prepare etc. But the downside is that many people can't stay much past 9pm which makes for too little time for some topics.

OK, This month's tech meeting will be Wednesday November 2nd at 7pm. If you can't make it until 8, you can still attend but there will be less beer to taste. :D

Actually the original time and date was set to provide people with more options to participate in club activities, there are several with small childern (not to mention any names right Mr. Franklin, oh wait that is me now too) and other early commitments the ability to attend.

I would not make this a permanent change, and if it is desired by most that it be a permanent change. That change should be requested through the Club board of directors an announced by them on the forums, as well as permanent standard day change should be.

Nobody is saying at this point that this would be a permanent change. But this is exactly why I opened up a request for feedback on Tech meeting times and days. Things do tend to change over time, and as new members join we should try and re-evaluate from time to time.

If a new meeting schedule is requested by the people who regularly attend I will make the proposal to the board if that's what is required. The Tech meeting has very rarely held to the regular meeting days/times though. It's always been flexible to the needs of the host or presenter.

Tech meetings are a unique breed and may just need to be flexible. Some subjects require much less time than others. I see no problem with having them on a consistent date but adjusting start time according to what works for the particular host/presenter or whatever. I think I have only made one tech meeting to make stir plates so you don't have to start late on my account.

Loving the stir plate by the way. Can make huge starters and makes a vortex in my 5000ml flask with no issues.

Randy & Matt,

I agree with both statements, just wanted to let you know that the date and time was approved by the COB and changes to it should placed for vote or vetted through them.

I guess what I would like to propose, although it will be dang near impossible to put into practice, is maybe aim for a set end time. My biggest concern with the 8:00 start time is that if we have a big topic, I'm not home til 11. that makes 5:30 come really early. I'm not saying my work schedule is anybody else's problem, but if all things are equal, I would prefer an earlier start time. If we aim for a 10 PM end time maybe we could adjust the start time depending on how much time the topic(s) will take up. I had no idea that things like this would have to go thru committee. I figured that since this seems to be a smaller group of people an agile start time might be appropriate. I don't want to do something, though that would result in someone who wants to participating, not.

I hate to do this but I'm going to have to back out of hosting the November tech meeting. We were just told that we'll be going to 12 hour shifts starting next Monday. Sorry.

November Tech Meeting

Wow, they gave you a whole week's notice on a major scheduling change! I mean it's only your free time, family life etc that that they're messing with, right?

Sarcasm aside, that really sucks, Jim. Sorry to hear the cold hearted bastards are finding new ways to make working for them hell. They know the job market is bad so they're just screwing you every chance they get.
