Local Base Malt Source?

Hey all, wondered if any of the breweries around help out us home guys by wholesaling 50# bags of base. I have heard that Millstream does once in a while.

If anyone know of where and when can they please let me know?

We do a club purchase once or twice a year through Millstream for Breiss products. It is a huge savings. I think average price per bag last time was around $25. I think we should be doing another order this winter. I know I am ready for some malt. Nor sure exactly when.

How can I get my $30 dues to you? I work 2nd shift and meetings would be difficult to attend, but I would like to support the efforts and get in on stuff like the group buys. Thanks.

When the club orders, what type(varieties) of grains can be ordered and how much/little of each can be ordered?

You can order anything that Briess produces (on their web site). The grain must be ordered in 50 pound bags on average, there are some like DME that are 60 pounds I think.

Some of the club members get together and split bags of things like caramel malts as it is hard to brew enough batches to go through 50 pounds of these malts in a reasonable amount of time. Some of the club members in the past have also ordered large quatities of these speciality malts to provide to club members at cost over the year. Though I don't think they do it anymore as they had a lot that they had to throw away last time.

For specialty grains there are a few of use who divided up the more common ones from the last shipment. I have more than I can use for some of these and can sell some.

C-20, C-40, C-60, Munich (9L), Chocolate, Roasted Barley.

I'll sell at the club buy price of 60 cents/#.

Grain comes in 50-55# bags.
Splitting bags is ok, but 1 person has to take responsibility for payment.
Payment is due at pickup. I will cover the cost, but I have to be paid to load your grain. Cash is prefered.
Like I mentioned, I can't haul all the grain, so we need to have people come down to get they're own or make arrangements with others.

This can get big. We've ordered 2 1/2 tons before. Last year a bag of base malt was $23 delivered. $25 for everything else except the extracts. At least half LMBS or online. It may be more, I won't know til I ask.

It really depends, traditionally we do not, we typically make one order per year around the November-January time frame.
