Cheap(er) Carboys

So I was doing some grocery shopping at the New Pioneer Coop in Iowa City a couple weekends back, when I noticed they're selling refillable 2.5gl and 5gl "glass jugs" (w/water) for about $20 - $25 each. These are identical to the carboys that you'll find through online suppliers such as Northern Brewer, who'd like to ship you one for about $45. Clearly a solid savings, plus the 2.5gl jugs are sweet! I've got 2gl batches of sweet mead and melomel fermenting as we speak. If you're interested I would recommend that you call ahead, just to make sure they have them in stock.

Cheers!

If anyone is seriously interested in these, let me know. I park my car over there and walk to work. I would be happy to stop in and pick it up and save you the trip.

Are these different than the spring water that they sell in carboys? They have a deposit on those containers which is $8 or $10 IIRC.

Yes, the spring water refill station is where you'll find the carboys. The price I mentioned above includes the deposit.
