At the November meeting, if my blurred memory serves me, a bulk grain purchase was discussed. Is it to late to get in on this? If not let me know.
Thanks,
Tom

I emailed with Chris at Millstream in November and he said then that they would not be ordering grain until February. I will contact him and provide an update at the next meeting and possibly on this website. Thanks for the reminder.

Chris from Millstream said that he is making an order at the end of the month. I would like to have the club order to him by Friday January 18th. I did ask him if he knows how much per bag the grain is, but I have not received an answer yet. Please post your order here if possible. That way everyone in the club can know what everyone has to share.

I clicked on Grain Order, but it did not take me anywhere. Being a geek of a different order, how do I put in a grain order on the club web site?

Being new to this I'm not sure what I need. Possibly some 2 row pale and some wheat? Anyone for suggestions on for the big use items? What about caramalts for Belgiums? It would be nice to have an idea on price before I have to sell a first born. Hopefully we'll get some input before the meeting. See you then.

David Ard would like to order 2 50# bags of Pale Malt.

Tom: Depending on how much beer you plan to brew over the next 12 months I would order 1 50# of pilsner malt for belgian ales and 1 50# of wheat malt for wits and hefe. 2-row malt is the brewers work horse and can be used in pretty much any beer so you might want to get a 50# bag of that also. Brian and I have a bunch of specialty malts that I will post shortly that anyone in club can buy at cost from us.

All: Here are all the specialty malts that Brian and I have to offer the club.

120L Crystal Malt 35#
Smoke Malt 8#
Chocolate Malt 40#
Flaked Oats 15#
Munich Malt Old 5#

We are also thinking about purchasing the following:

Here is my grain order.
1 50# pale malt
1 50# pilsner
1 50# wheat
2 50# 2-row
Dave, I would definately help you use the specialty grains you are looking to order. You probably don't need flaked barley though. I still have a lot of it that you can get.

I forgot to note that Millstream buys their grain from Briess. Here is a link of what you can purchase.

Thanks for letting me know about the flaked barley. I will remove it from our list. Would you post how much you have available to the rest of the club? Thanks

Dave,
Did Chris ever give you a price/bag list? It would help me to budget for how much grain I can get.
Bob
P.S. I know someone from church who wanted to get in on this order. He is on the forum, but I don't know if he gets all the posts through e-mail. I can pass the information on when you get it.

After looking at some recipes I might have a good guess at what I need.
2- #50 2 row
2- #50 Pilsen
1- #50 Wheat
1- #50 Aromatic
I am also looking at:
Extra Special
Caramel 10L
Caramel 120L
I'm not sure if I'd use a whole bag of the last 3. If anyone would want to go in on it I'm game.
Can we get bulk rice hulls as well?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom:
Brian and I have more rice hulls and 120L crystal malt then we will ever use. So, let me know how much you need and I will bring it to the meeting. We also have 20L crystal if you wanted to use that instead of the 10L.
Lastly, what is the aromatic malt that you are referring to?

I asked Chris about prices and he did not offering any. He said he would send us the price when we send in the order. They will certainly be more expensive then last year.
