Got this from Wayne last night. Also, he told me the winning entry is going to be brewed by Madhouse, and sold at HyVee center point, and there is talk from Pete at Brick's about putting the winner on tap. Pete suggested if he could do this, there would be a kickdown to the club.
Brew-tality 2 now has a time and place. Field House on BFR, Sat April 21. 1pm-4pm. Chad Atherton and I will pow-wow this next week to finalize the style, and then I will release the info. You are the first to know. WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Beer Nuts of course will be welcome again.

So they pick one style and everyone brews that? That should be interesting...

Do you know if they are going to use the BJCP style guides to pick a style and for judging?

One style category. You would be able to brew any sub-category, if I understood correctly.

I have no idea. There are several AHA sanctioned competitions, that no one in the Beer Nuts ever enters. So I am not sure why that would be a concern.Â

I can say with almost certainty, that this will not be sanctioned.

I'm not concerned about it not being sanctioned. Just wondering where they're picking the style from. You mentioned category, where is the category coming from? Just curious. I'm sure I'll enter either way.

I did send him the style guidelines. I personally would rather see a sanctioned style, rather than a generic "brown ale", or something like that. I will probably enter regardless.

If they want these brew-tality's to be anything but a "shoot from the hip" competition, I would hope they pick an official style. That said, depending on the style, I will probably shoot from the hip in the direction of this as well...

So would I. One of the things a get a chuckle at every time GABF publishes their winners. There are WAY too many judged categories of some styles. There were something like 3 or 4 "Aged" or "Barrel Aged" stouts if I remember. I think they try to squeeze in so many so that everyone has a good chance to place in something.

I will most likely enter if I have something ready to rock or can get something brewed for it. I am going to put my faith in Wayne to see what he comes up with. I jumped all over him out of the gate on the first one and he came up with an original idea that sounded like a great success.

I'm going to brew for this as long as it's a style I can get done in time. I doubt they'll pick something like a Barley Wine for this.

Yeah, a lot of people were critical when the first one was announced, but everyone who partook had a good time with it. I didn't enter, but I attended, and it was a lot of fun.
Plus, the majority of people there are beer brewers/enthusiasts. We've picked up a member or two from last year's.
I don't know if I'll have time to brew for it, but I'll definitely be attending.

Depending on the style and timing, I'll probably give it a try this year.
