Does anyone need the less hot, yet still pretty warm ghost pepper? My cousin grows a bunch of them and is passing through town in early March. I could see if he has some.

Well I have good news and bad news. Bad news is the ghost peppers are gone. My cousin is in the coast guard and was relocated from Key West to Duluth this summer. He said his ghost pepper bush is still growing strong in Key West but you need access to the base to get to them.

Good news is he already ordered some Trinidad Scorpion pods and puree to play with so maybe he will be growing those soon.

Chili Cook-off details

Post by carrisr »

Here's the official info for the 2012 Chili Cook-off. Get those crock pots fired up for our most "hotly" contested food competition!

March 31st, 6pm @ Matt's house. If you plan to bring Chili, please be there no later than 6:15pm as we want to get eating and judging as soon as possible. If you're not bringing Chili please consider bringing a side dish or desert. Since we're not at a public place this is a great opportunity to bring those great commercial beers you've been hording. Tony will post more info about the competition itself.

The address is 1102 30th Street Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52403. If you haven't been to Matt's house, please read his directions and parking info here: http://www.crbeernuts.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=1120.

Don't worry, Matt will have the basketball games on his projection TV so we can keep up with Final 4 action.

I guess that I'm mellowing as I get older, but this year, it's a "no rules" chili cook-off.

That's right - make it any damned way you please - hot/mild, red/green/white, meat/vegan (but be prepared for abuse!)

Just so everything is out in the open this year - there is a separate award for HOTTEST CHILI again! We only ask that if you're going to blow out our sphinters, please put a warning lable on your crock pot!!!

Overall winner is by a PEOPLES' CHOICE vote.

Although it's a month away, it will be here in no time!!!

Also, if you plan to blow out your sphincter, don't do it at my house!

Just as a reminder to people. The annual Chili Cookoff is being held on Saturday, March 31st at Matt's house. If you plan to bring Chili please post here so we have an idea of how many entries we'll have. You are encouraged to bring sides or desert if not bringing chili. Of course, this is also a great time to bring and share those commercial beers you've been stockpiling.

We're going to start gathering at Matt's house at 6pm. If you are bringing Chili please be there no later than 6:15 so we can begin tasting at 6:30.
