so the wife and I got some new appliances and I'm keeping my old one to dedicate as a fermentation fridge. Finally I have something dedicated to temperature control and won't have to lug a swamp cooler into/out of the basement and can brew lagers on a more consistent basis. Rock!

That's awesome Hobo! You'll never look back. Although I have to say with complete honestly your "swamp cooler" beers are pretty damn tasty!

Congrats on the score. A fermenting fridge is one of the only brewery upgrades I consider indispensable. Not one of the other changes I've made has mattered as much as being able to control fermentation temps.

Thanks for the compliment, Randy. I'm really looking forward to my next batch so I can use this fridge. If its as invaluable as you say, Lee, I'm gonna be happy with the decision to keep it around. Might just have to do a pilsner to break it in...

So how did you guys install the temp controller probe in the fridge? Trying to figure out where to drill a hole.

I didn't drill any holes for the temp probe. I just shut the door on the cord of the probe and the seal gives enough to keep the door closed. Being in my basement the fridge doesn't run much to keep ales in check so a little air getting out of the fridge is not a big deal. In fact, I often leave the door cracked so when the fridge shuts off it doesn't continue to get colder.

Aaron,
I haven't put a hole in my fridge for that yet. I just have the probe wire running through the door seal for now. The controller I use has a digital probe and the wire is around 5' long.

Same here. I just have the door closed on the wire.
