Hi all,

I am looking at ordering some rhizomes. Does anyone else grow their own? If so what varieties grow well in our area? Are they good for bittering and aroma/flavor? Or do you have to experiment on the AA each season? Thanks for the input.

I planted a fuggle, willamette and cascade and they have done fairly well considering I don't have an ideal location. Each year I make a 'fresh hop' beer and use them to throw in the end of the boil. More novelty for me than anything serious. You really won't know the actual AA without specific testing/measurement.

I grow cascades and they do great. I will try to remember pictures for the next meeting. I haven't been very serious about using them, but that has changed with the hop shortage and the acquisition of a vacum sealer. I own the book, "Homebrewer's Garden" but not sure if I have it in my possession right now. The BYO that came this week has some good hop growing info. Mainly, just make sure they get lots of sun.
