March 809 Pump upgrade

My pump got stuck during my last brew session due to a thrust washer (part# 0809-0043-1000) that was shot. I ordered 4 new ones from Tesco since they were only $0.60 each. I also ordered a larger impeller & magnet assembly (part# 0809-0107-0200) that is 2-5/32 diameter versus the original 1-11/16" diameter I had in my pump. I have read mixed results online with some claiming it has increased flow rate and less cavitation. I figure if I am paying $8 in shipping I may as well get more stuff. I will let you know if I notice a difference.

Here are some links to some discussion out there.

Well, I brewed last week with the larger impeller installed in my pump. It didn't seem to make a huge difference. I did not take any scientific measurements but it seem to handle the pumping up to my HERMS near the ceiling from the pump located near the floor better. Most noticeable difference was during my whirlpool chilling which had a strong, much more noticeable whirlpool in the kettle. It also pumped faster to the carboys from the boil kettle. Was it worth the $24, maybe but I would not go out of my way to upgrade as most of the brew day I am running my pump with back pressure applied.

I did not have any cavitation issues but I usually don't struggle with that too much. As you saw, I use the sink to prime the hoses when necessary and try to keep air out of the hoses. Equipment worked flawlessly during that least brew session.

i thought it was pretty damn good, hopefully my replacement chugger pump works that well. i was impressed with how well the brew session went, i chalk it up to your years of experiance and me pouring the beer, ok well maybe more your experiance.
