Beer tasting in Elkader

Abu Nawas Beverage Co. is a specialty beer distribution company founded by Frederique last fall. It's portfolio includes some of the best craft breweries in the world including Jolly Pumpkin, Mikkeller, Schneider & Sohns, plus many rare world-class beers. Click here to visit their facebook page.

Schera's Restaurant in Elkader is hosting a kick-off party for Abu Nawas on Saturday, March 31 from 1pm to 4pm. Tickets are $20 per person in advance or $25 at the door and includes twelve three-ounce sample pours and one six-ounce Cask Ale (real ale) hand-pumped from our brand new beer enginge imported from England. Additional beers are available on a cash basis. We will also be offering shawarma (gyros) and falafel for those wishing to eat. (The regular menu will not be available between 12:45pm and 4:30pm.) A portion of the proceeds will go towards purchasing playground equipment for Elkader's new park located in the area devastated by the 2008 flood.

No fillers here! Frederique and Abu Nawas' Sales Manager Kevin Roberts will be on hand to discuss the beer on tap as well as answer any questions about Abu Nawas' line-up. We will also have bottles of some of the featured beers available for sale at a discounted price.

All participants in the beer tasting will be entered into a raffle for an extremely rare bottle of beer, to be announced at the event! A truly unique opportunity.

Kevin Roberts is a very knowledgeable beer geek and homebrewer so they have a good guy as their sales manager. I had a few tastings with him at Larry's house before the Beer Nuts even existed about 10 years ago. He is a homebrewer and true beer lover. He was a huge early and very active Rate Beer guy. Last I heard from him he was a Jolly Pumpkin rep so glad to see he has made a go of it in the beer world.

If you go to this event you should be in great shape for the Chilli Cook off that night! I myself cannot attend this event.

I can vouch for Kevin as well. I used to work with him at IDT, He's the one that got me heavy into homebrewing. He's a great guy and knows his beer.
