Welcome to the new forum!

I didn't know that CR had a HB club. This is so cool.

I have been an extract brewer for the last 6 months and I want to get into all-grain brewing but not sure of what type of mash tun conversion kit I should be looking for. I have a 5 gal rubbermaid cooler that I can convert. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can convert this or perhaps have an older unit they want to sell and upgrade?

Thanks
Mick

Welcome mick.

I don't have a great mash setup but it it might be great for u to see someone that does in the group use theirs so u can get a feel of what u like or don't like about the setup.

Welcome! I currently have a converted keg with a false bottom in it and a 10 gallon polarware with a false bottom in it for mashtuns in my brewery. I prefer the polarware because it maintains the heat better but use the keg for bigger beers. I am brewing this Sunday 9 am to 4 pm if you would like to stop by and also hosting the next meeting on Thursday, November 19 at 7:00 pm. The directions to my house are on the meeting post. Here is a link to a picture of my brewery.

Welcome!

I have been brewing with the set up on THIS PAGE for years. I recommend reading the section on batch sparging too.[/url]

Mine is very similar to Denny C's as well. I have a cooler w/ external hose threads on it, so I rigged up a jig out of CPVC that screws onto it with a valve and barb on the end. The valve is worthless, (leaks like a sieve), but just looping the hose thru the handle of the cooler does the trick. The little hose clampy things that often come w/ starter kits would add a little peace of mind, too. On the inside, I have the hose braid clamped onto a little piece of vinyl tubing that fits snug in the drain hole. It works like a champ, and I can still use the cooler as a cooler when I want.
