2012 Independence Brew B Q
2012 Independence Brew B Q
The Independence Brew B Q is Saturday August 25 from 3-7 pm, just under 6 weeks away. That's the weekend before the Festival of Iowa Beers.
Those of us that went up to Indee last year had fun. Not much of a craft beer drinking crowd, milder beers and fruit beers seemed to go over best.
They're looking at getting the names and styles of the beers we're going to be bringing. The list doesn't need to be finalized yet, but I think it's time to start getting things together.
They've also asked if someone is interested in giving a homebrew seminar from 1:00 to 2:30.
I'm sure we'll talk about this at the next meeting, but I thought I'd get the ball rolling.
I'm going to bring a Hefeweizen (I think).
Who's in? whatcha bringing?...

I just pitched a Spotted Cow clone (bubbling away in primary as we speak) that I planned to bring. Style is an American Cream Ale. Let's call it Happy Holstein Ale.

I have 3 kegs if we need them all. Winnie's Night Out is a Bourbon Barrel honey brown ale, Beat the wHEAT is an american wheat patterned after Millstream's Windmill Wheat, and I will have a specialty beer: a high gravity, high CO2, cream ale style with a gallon of white grape juice (made similar to the Mt. Brew that some of us have made). This crowd likes fruity, fun, different beers so I thought what the hell.

The Independence Brew-B-Q is preparing the program they'll be printing for the event. They'd like us to prepare a list for them to publish in the program (and it will be used as the ballot for voting for favorite beer).
They need a Beer Name and Style.
I know we may not know what all we've got until we get set up in Independence, but we can supply what we can and indicate there will be may be some surprise extras at the event.
They'll be printing these up soon, so we need to get this list together as soon as possible.
The homebrew demonstration runs from 1 to 2:30, a little later than in past years, so maybe there will be a few more people show up. Would anyone like to give the homebrew talk? Joe from BIY was volunteered by some in the group but I don't know that he actually offered, or if he's planning on going. Joe if you are interested let me know.
We should also start a list of who's bring what items...things like
Club Box
CO2
Club Banner
White Board and Markers
I’ve composed a list based on the posts so far. (Sorry if I missed any.) I made up the names, styles and quantities as I went through the list, feel free to update as necessary and repost.
Hugh Hef - Hefeweizen - 5 gallons - Derek
Happy Holstein Ale - Spotted Cow clone - 5 gallons - Tony
??? - Java Stout - 12 Grolsh bottles - Jim Fuller
??? - Lemon Ginger Wheat - 5 gallons - Lee
??? - ??? Cider - 5 gallons - Lee
Winnie's Night Out -Bourbon Barrel Honey Brown Ale - 5 gallons - John Eikenberry
Beat the wHEAT - American Wheat - 5 gallons - John Eikenberry
??? - Cream Ale with Grape Juice - 5 gallons - John Eikenberry
Any additions? Anyone else coming?

Is anyone with experience with setting up the club setup going to be attending?
Also with the club set up... a few of us at Benz got sprayed with beer when a line without a clamp came loose, it seemed like there were a number of lines without clamps. Has this been addressed?
The program is going to be printed this weekend, so if we want it on the program, we need to know the beer name and beer description by then (Lee names? - we can just but cider as the discription if you're not sure which varietal you are bringing - John, name for Cream ale?). There will be write-in space for surprise extras.
Current Lineup
Hugh Hef - Hefeweizen - 5 gallons - Derek
Happy Holstein Ale - Spotted Cow clone - 5 gallons - Tony
Java Stout - Stout flavored with Nicaragaun Coffee - 12 Grolsh bottles - Jim Fuller
??? - Lemon Ginger Wheat - 5 gallons - Lee

2012 Independence Brew B Q
I'll bring a Belgian Trippel, and maybe an IPA. No names as of now; I'll try to come up with something lewd.
I'll probably arrive early again this year to set up, if for no other reason than to make sure we get the pavilion. If someone wants to arrive early, and learn how to set up the bar, that would be nice.

This brings up a good point...also while at Benz we talked about the fact the gauge on the gas regulator does not work. We should replace that so we have some idea of where we're setting the CO2 level. If someone has a regulator or gauge they can donate that would be cool, but I also think we can afford to buy one.

The regulator works, just the gauges are bad. But I already have replacements for it.
