John's Grocery has several cases of Westvleteren 12. Not sure the price, but they are having an open house tomorrow at 3, and will be doing something with it at that point.

I might be willing to go in on this with a group. All I really want is a few oz to try. Don't want to spend $85 for that.

Benz has it. You need to take in up to 3 non perishable food items. 1 raffle entry per food item.

Do you know when they're doing the raffle?

Isn't Westvleteren 12 basically just St Bernardus Abt 12?  I seem to recall something about this in Stan Hieronymus's "Brew Like a Monk" and found the following blog post on the topic.  I suppose it's possible that the monks changed the recipe after SB got ahold of it....

They are very similar and came from the same origin as described in Stan's book. Product is similar but hard to get Westy in the states. Supply low, demand high = high price. People want to try for themselves and $85 for a 6 pack and two glasses is a hell of a lot cheaper than a flight to Belgium. The bottles I have seen in the states usually trade at a higher price than this offering also.

I myself won't be getting any. I have blown through the beer budget this winter and had to buy a dishwasher yesterday. Double drawers are cool but not reliable. I am done getting my Fisher Paykel fixed once a year now that the warranty has expired.

I'll try the Westy clone recipe from Candi syrup at some point. Now I have so much quad that Im just not feeling up to making a $85 purchase.
