Looking to build a kettle from a keg and need some advice. I have a rubber coated keg that I picked up a while back. Has anyone ever taken the rubber coating off one of these? Will it work to convert to a brew pot? I am thinking I may need to find someone wanting to trade for a non-rubber coated one but thought I would see what others thought first.
If you're thinking of doing all-grain, I'd keep it as a mash tun. Otherwise, ditch it for non-coated. I think it wouldn't be worth the effort to strip.
I was kind of thinking that might be the answer. Unfortunately I already have a mash tun and am in need of a kettle. If anyone is interested in any sort of a trade or has a not rubber coated keg let me know!
If somone wants to go electric this could work. Too big for my needs though.

Will the rubber stand up to 100C temperatures for long? I guess it depends on the type of rubber used, and worse case it stinks a little and peels off of the steel.

I was wondering if it would hold up to the temp for the long term as well. There isn't a lot out there about the rubber kegs, atleast for kettles. I did find a home for this one with a trade offer so looks like I am a step closer to a kettle!
Actually, it would likely be more suited for a mash tun. I'd think that could stand up to ~60-65C temperatures, that is likely how they are cleaned. Plus the rubber would help with the insulation.

I was given a keg cut in half recently and won't be using it if you want it. No fittings or handles that I remember. I haven't really taken a good look at it.
