Dog Day's of summer ale

Post by Bones »

Ingredients

6 lbs 8.0 oz Pale Malt (2 Row)
2 lbs 8.0 oz Wheat Malt, Dark
1 lbs White Wheat Malt
1.00 oz Hallertauer Hersbrucker [4.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min
0.50 oz Saaz [4.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min
2.00 oz Lemon zest (Boil 5.0 mins)
0.50 oz Saaz [4.00 %] - Boil 5.0 min
1.0 pkg Kolsch Yeast (Wyeast Labs #2565)

I just zested a bag of lemons (maybe a dozen) and made some lemonade.

3.5 gallons mash water @ 152*

4.6 gallons sparge, target temp is 168*, I batch sparge and usually heat water to 190 or so to hit that temp. That's using a 46qt cooler mash tun and a 7 gallon brew pot. I actually ended up with a little more than 5 gallons and could have boiled longer to get less volume and a bit higher gravity.

Shoot for a 1.056 gravity.
