Millstream Brewing - Home Brewers Contest

Post by tony b »

The Millstream Brewing website list of upcoming events has a home brewers contest as part of Octoberfest. Entries are due by Noon on Saturday (Oct. 4th), winners announced at 4pm in the Festhalle.

I'm ready for my ego to take a bruising and am thinking about entering a couple of beers.

I'm going to email them for the details.

As another "heads up" the annual THIRSTY Homebrew Classic is listed, too. Saturday, November 1st. Still time to brew that Gold Ribbon Winner!!

Here's what I got from Teresa at Millstream about the upcoming beer competition.

No problem about turning your beers in on Friday. In fact they will be picking up the Oktoberfest keg at Millstream Brewery then taking it to the Festhalle to tap it so you can just drop it off at that time if you want.

There should be no labels on the bottle or markings on the cap. On a piece of paper write your name, address, phone number, email, type and style of beer, etc and rubber band it to the bottles. You should submit 2 – 12 oz bottles. That way if we have to have a second round we have a second bottle to open. There is no limit on how many beers you enter. We have about 20 entries on average. We just break up the categories when they get here and we find out what beers we have entered.

Do you know how much it costs to enter the competition?

They're too humble to post, but Chris and Amy scored a 1st and 2nd at the Amana Ochtoberfest homebrew contest.

Let's give it up to our CR Beer Nuts crew!!!

Update: Got the score sheets from Teresa today in the mail. My bad - Amy and Chris scored TWO 1st places and second.

1st Place German Ales: German Alt
1st Place Belgian: Belgian Pale Ale
2nd Place Specialty: Braggot

Humility aside, yours truly scored 2 second places.

2nd Place Porters/Brown Ale: Irish Ale
2nd Place German Ales: Honey Kolsch

Did they give an award for DFL? I think I was in the running.

Congrats on the wins!
