Wyeast in the Works!

Hello Friends! We've reached a point at BIY where we feel that expanding our yeast selection is needed, and we're looking now at regularly stocking Wyeast! We have in the past went through one of our distributors to get Wyeast in when needed, but have had fulfillment issues, so that was never very stable. We are now planning on going directly through the lab, and if all goes as planned we will be placing our initial lab-direct order this next week.

Here's where I'm going with this---if you've been buying Wyeast elsewhere or know that you are going to be brewing in the next week or two and want us to grab a smack pack for you----just let me know! We want to know what Wyeast you use, and if you want us to get any one in specific for you on this order.

If you would like BIY to get you some smack packs, please send an email to service@biyhomebrewsupply.com with what you would like, plus your name and email, so that I can track who would like what. Thanks as always for your support!

I don't need any right now but lots of folks in the club use 3711 French Saison regularly. The Roeselare blend is also great for sours. Personally I would generally use Wyeast versus Whitelabs most of the time.

Thanks for the great input guys-----if anyone else has preferences or needs, let us know soon! Also--if you know any brewers that aren't part of the club who enjoy Wyeast, have them shoot us an email too. The better idea I have of what strains are the best will only benefit the selection right from the start. Thanks again!

I have heard Brew Strong say 3068 is the best Hefe yeast out there and they rave about the West Yorkshire yeast for all your English styles. Don't need any right now bit wouldn't mind trying some Mexican Lager or German lager yeast.

I know I'm a little late to the party but I wanted to look back over what I've used in the past...

By far, the most used was 1056, American Ale. I've used it in many different styles and always liked it.
I've also used 1028, London Ale. Another favorite.
I used 1335, British Ale II in a Furious clone that turned out nice.

But most of all, I prefer Wyeast to White Labs, mostly due to the Smack Paks over the tubes.

3787 , and another vote for 3711. The dry mead yeast is also excellent.

I'm very pleased to announce that we now have Wyeast in stock in Marion (and will have some in North Liberty tomorrow)! It just arrived, Nikki has it checked in, and has held packs for folks that sent me an email. Swing on by to pick some up if you're needing them! 1056, 3711, 1010, 1968, 2565, 3068, and more. We started out small and will grow our Wyeast selection similarly to how we grew the White Labs selection---you let us know what you want to see, and we'll make it happen.

Thanks as always for your support guys! You rock!
