Interesting. I've typically noticed clearer beers when I dump the trub.

I transfer a good amount of trub to my fermenter and it definately looks similar to the Trub carboy in the experiment. I find my beers clear really well and respond quickly to cold crashing. I have never used a clarifying agent or filter beyond whirlfloc/irish moss in the boil. For me some time in the fridge is all I need. Maybe the trub is helping me out.
Also, the sterile siphon starter he recommends is awesome. I prefer it greatly to the autosiphon. It is how I have been racking beers for years. You can even use CO2 to start the siphon if blowing through the sterile filter concerns you. I use my lungs.

That siphon is awesome. Too bad I use buckets and big mouth bubblers.

If you have a big mouth buubler with two ports just fit a blowin tube in one port by drilling out a correctly sized bung to fit the lid and do the same to fit a racking cane. Just needs to be tight enough to get the siphon going. I plan to upgrade to big mouth bubblers. Do you have the plastic ones? If so, did you get the harness too or can you move around a bit without?

Same would work on a bucket. Make two holes to fit bungs drilled for a blow tube and one for a racking cane.

I have the plastic ones and got single port, but plan to get dual port lids next time I order a couple more or swing through the city. I like them a lot so far. The insides are rough in some areas making cleaning a bit more work, but since you can reach in there with a rag it's not difficult at all. I use the same harness I used on glass carboys just snugged up a bit more. Got it for $6 last year on Amazon. No need for the "special" hauler IMO
