The Yeast Bay

Post by fargo41 »

Not sure how many, if any, have heard of The Yeast Bay http://www.theyeastbay.com/ but they have been isolating interesting strains of yeast and I was thinking about trying one or two. I was just wondering if anyone has checked them out yet or if anyone would be interested. What has kept me from ordering so far is the price of shipping, a flat $7.95. So I figured I'd see if anyone is interested in getting an order together to split shipping or talk me out of it and just stick to what yeast we have local, I've been looking at the Saison Blend to make a saison in July.

I have heard lots of good things about them and they have isolated some unique bretts too. I am not in now for an order but maybe some point in the future. Do most of my brewing in the fall and winter.

I ordered SAISON/BRETTANOMYCES BLEND and FUNKTOWN PALE ALE from the Yeast Bay today. Can't wait to get this action on.

Awesome! I'm making a saison using the saison blend (no Brett) tomorrow. I ordered the shipping upgrade when I ordered last Monday. I figured the heat would be bad enough. It shipped Wednesday and I got it on Friday but the ice pack was all melted and the yeast was about room temp. Put the 2 (second is northeast Abbey) in the fridge. Last night I made a starter and it looks like it is going so guess shipping didn't kill the yeast.

I still need to figure out my recipe to use with the ne abbey.
