Filling bottle from a keg
Filling bottle from a keg
Now that I have started kegging, I am looking for suggestions on how best to transport some of my beer. From the neighbor down the street to shipping to my sister in San Diego.

I use growler or flip top bottles for sharing locally. Don't know about shipping it though
Re: Filling bottle from a keg
If you just put some beer into a bomber and cap it. Does that work?

It should. I've done that before too. I usually stick a piece of beer line into the tap to bottom fill the bottles
Re: Filling bottle from a keg
I second that. Tube on the tap to bottom fill the bottle. Turn down the gas to a low psi and chilling the bottles helps too. If you want to spend money folks like Blichmann Beer Gun.

If I'm consuming it quick... I just fill the bomber or thermos off the tap directly. Won't store well though.

I always get too much head when I fill directly off the tap.
Re: Filling bottle from a keg
I filled y first 3 bottles last weekend to see how they hold carbonation over 1, 2 and 3 weeks since I am entering into this blonde comp this month. I was lazy and just used my growler filler off my faucets at really low psi so we will see. If this is a fail, I plan to make something out of a picnic tap and a racking cane if I still have one.
Cap on top of foam is what I hear stressed a lot.

I use racking cane picnic tap and plug works well low psi is good, don't fast fill makes beer angry and lots of foam

Wait - your sister lives in San Diego? I can't think of a single reason why she should need your homebrew (or anyone else's for that matter). That being said, I recommend a growler filler for those guys down the street.

The weird part is she also brews her own. With all those breweries.

I will post a recommendation for the Blichmann Beer Gun. I really like mine.
You can't get with this with a bad hip - Matt

Beer 1 after a week was pretty flat. It was drinkable, but flat. Need more practice or build one with a picnic tap

Bought a beer gun today, and used it to bottle my state fair entries. All I have to say about it is "wow" it took me about half as long to bottle, and I was able to blanket with CO2.I didn't have nearly as much foam loss as I did with my homemade CPF. In fact, most, if not all, of the foam was sanitizer.
Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road
