Temp probe location in keezer?

I have a keezer with my kegs. I also ferment in the same unit with my Black Box STC1000 handling heating and cooling.

When fermenting I tape the probe to the carboy with a piece of leftover reflectix.

When in serving temp mode I've started doing the same to a keg.

I have a small computer fan inside to help circulate. The temp probe isn't supposed to be submerged so putting it in an old white labs vile filled with water isn't recommended.

I guess I'm wondering if what I'm doing is just fine or if there is a better way without buying thermowells (which obviously won't be possible on a keg)

Tape it in a empty bomber. I wrap mine around the co2 regulator

I think either attached to the side of a keg or the can idea are fine. Small variance in serving temp is not going to make much difference. For lagering more control helps but again isn't going to affect much as long as it's within several degrees.

I use a temp probe for fermenting only as my keg fridge is a refrigerator and I just let it do its thing. I use a bungee wrapped around a carboy to hold my probe flat against the side of the carboy. I have an immersion probe for carboys but I haven't used it much recently.

This is relevant to my interests, as I just bought a freezer and wired a stock STC-1000 into it last night. It's jut for serving (and cold crashing maybe) so I am interested in what the best temp probe location, and duty cycle / hysteresis settings, would be with an eye toward lifetime of the appliance.
