I am going to enter my Breakfast stout in a competition and I was wondering what category to enter. Should it be entered in 13F - Imperial Stout or 21A - Spice, Herb, or Vegetable. The BJCP Style Guidelines lists the Founders Breakfast Stout as an example in the 21A category. But would it be a better fit in the Imperial Stout category?

You will want to enter 21A due to the use of coffee and chocolate. If you enter as an imperial stout it may not do as well as the use of herbs and spices are out of place for that category. I won a few first place ribbons with my Savannah Stout which uses coffee and nibs. It is very similar to Breakfast stout but more coffee forward. Entered in 21A.

Thanks Matt, I will enter it in the 21A category. My wife is heading to the St. Louis area for her job this Saturday and I found a homebrew competition being held in O'Fallon, MO on February 7th. The wife will only be a couple miles from one of the dropoff locations, so I am sending a couple of my homebrews with her to enter in the competition. If anyone has a homebrew they would like to enter in the competition, she could transport a few more beers. The competition is called Champion of the Pint and I found the registration info on the Homebrewers Association website.
