Double IPA Yeast Comparison Tech Tasting

Post by Matt F »

Hello Beer Nuts! I brewed another version of my FYF Double IPA that I had at NHC in June this past summer. I split one 10 gallon batch into four fermenters and pitched 4 different yeasts.
1) Conan Yeast Strain (Heady Topper)
2) Wyeast 1217-PC West Coast IPA
3) Wyeast 1056 American Ale
4) Wyeast 1098 British Ale

My plan is to host a Tech Session at my home on Wednesday, January 28 at 8:00 PM. I have all four on tap. We will taste each one and have an open discussion between differences (if any, damn hoppy) you notice between the yeast strains. I would like this to then morph into a hoppy beer tasting. Bring some hoppy beers to share, commercial or homebrew both welcome. It is a weeknight so I will try to close the bar by midnight. Of course, I have said that before. I will follow up with a link with directions and contact information.

I'll be there. I have a DIPA recipe but won't be making it soon. I'd like to talk about hop stands and dry hopping methods people use and like.

Cool. I will make sure to walk through how I hopped the beer as an example.

Just brewed a Furious clone yesterday, but it won't be ready in time. Will have to settle for commercials. I'll hoard away the OverRated and Sculpin that I got over Xmas.

I'm in and will bring my version of Hop Fu, which has a slightly different hop profile, but also used the Wyeast West Coast IPA yeast. If the stars align, Dirty Hippie, an all-Brett, very dank red IPA will also be ready and brought.

Matt, if you want, I can bring a couple of cases of tasting glasses so folks can do side-by-sides of all four at the same time?
