For the summer months (June September) my vote is for wheats and Belgium style (strongs, tripels, doubles).

Just bumping this up. Can we get an official thread started for June?

Pale Ale or IPA for summertime.

Glad to see we have some discussion. Since we are using one of the 28 Beer styles, please indicate the style name and number. Guidelines are available http://www.bjcp.org/index.php.

So far we have a few round categories like Wheats. Wheats can be under a few categories. Wheats can be #15 German Wheat and Rye Beer, Witbier falls under #16 Belgian and French Ale, and American Wheat falls under #6 Light Hybrid Beer

Here is a list I can draw from what has been mentioned so far. Lets get rid of the old voting buttons for March and add some for June, September and December. Remember, we are doing the style, #10 American Ale for example. That means you can enter any of the sub categories, A. American Pale Ale, B. American Amber Ale, or C. American Brown Ale.

Think about the aging process for some of these when we get to voting. I would want at least 6 months or more to produce something in the Belgian Strong category. I age my dark strongs for a year but December might work.

I'm gonna say #10 or #14.

For the summer months I would have to go with

#6 or #10

the #6 I thing would go really well because those beers typically require very little time to mature.

For once I would have to agree with canadian j. Those categories would be better aligned with the season and turnaround time for the next judging.

I'm going to go with #6 or #15. Let's try to start up something for September and December too. If we wait much longer we'll use up all the quick brew styles in no time.

I think we should vote at the next meeting for the next year of competitions. That would take us in to March next year. That will give you nine weeks before the June competition to brew. We will make sure to select a style that does not need to age long. How long do most of you age a Saison? That is what big brew will be May 3 which is about 7 weeks before our June comp. Would be interesting to see where that places. Maybe everybody would win!

Although the styles that Matt posted are good ones, I just want to remind everyone that they were examples, not the only styles you can choose from. I just don't want anyone to think they are limited to the styles that are listed. Any BJCP style is OK, but you need to be specific, as Matt mentioned. My suggestion is for each member to select a style specifically for June, Sept, Nov/Dec (will discuss more about this next meeting), and for next March, keeping in mind that bigger styles need some aging time. Each member gets one vote for each quarterly competition, with the style getting the most votes being the style for that competition. I will tabulate the votes and let everyone know the June style by the next meeting. That gives everyone about a month to vote for the next competition.

Can we set up a poll for any or all of the next four competitions?

I agree with Larry on that I was just giving examples. Please select from any of the 28 catagories. I would like us to vote at the April meeting. The last poll did no get much participation. If you can't make the April meeting voice what you want here so we can consider it. By the time we leave the April meeting, we should have the beer styles for next 12 months.

We really can't set up a poll because each person should vote four times, once for each of the next four quarters, keeping in mind that a beer that is ready to drink in a short period of time will be the style for June and any big styles that get in will be three or four quarters from now. It would be way too complex to set up something like that on the web site. That said, have fun with it. You can download a copy of the BJCP style guidelines and use that as your guide for what you want to vote for. Then you will also have your own copy of the guidelines to use in judgings or just for reference. It's something we should all have anyway. I'm going to put mine in a three-ring binder for ease of use.
