Flawed beers

Post by kjball »

Hey all, I'm teaching again tomorrow night at lion bridge. I want to try to do a quick off-flavor demo with the students and am looking for input. I want to just gather any info regarding if there are any beers on the market right now that have clear flaws. I have diacetyl, skunky and astringent covered (I think). I'm specifically looking for band-aid flavors, general infected, oxidized or vegetal (DMS). If you know of any that you've had lately that would fit any of these categories, shout it out to me. I'm not trying to turn people into judges, but want to show what can (and does) go wrong during the process. Feel free to PM me if you'e worried about talking down a brewery. I plan to de-identify the beers as best I can before serving.

Dos Pistoles (at least the time I tried it) == negro modelo + butter (Edited to add: it was a batch that went bad at some point. Have tasted good batches since that one)
I had a diacetyl stout the other day also, can't recall the brand.

Does Another Road do growlers?

(FYI, I made sure this is a members only forum before ripping on a local establishment.)

Acetaldehyde is evident in their beers. So that's an easy one.

hm, I went there 3 or 4(?) months ago and everything seemed very good. I wasn't doing a critique, though, just a full flight.

Not recently. I was there about 2 months ago and the beers were about 60% meh and 40% ok.
