Chili Cook-off Anyone??

Seeing as we won't have a beer competition at the February meeting, is anyone interested in doing a chili cook-off as part of the festivities?

I'm talking straight up chili (bowl of red); no beans, no macaroni or spaghetti, just meat and sauce!!

Everyone could be given a ballot and could vote for their favorite!

I'd be game, but Ive never done one without beans. Mine might be too hot for most people to eat though.

Chili without beans is sloppy joes. Texans ruin everything.

Chili without beans is sloppy joes. Texans ruin everything.
When I cook chili, chilies take the place of beans....

I have a very tasty recipe for "Navajo Green Chile" that can be as spicy as the cook dares. I'll try for '10oz. of cold pale ale per bowl" spicy.

I don't recall who is hosting the February Meeting, just make sure the host is cool with it, and also gives the beer style. Host pick.

then lets advertise this, I'm not sure this is well known yet if it flies.

I make my chili with beans too, its cheap filler. gotta save some money for beer.

If you decide to do chili cookoff, then make sure you have

1. bowls
2. spoons
3. enough power to plug in crock pots
4. cheese and/or crackers
5. tums

Although we realy need to decide these at the meetings, because I'm not sure how may folks read these threads.

I agree with T about a lot of the club not knowing about a chili cookoff since only the group that is on this string, plus a few others, ever seem to visit the site. However, we have at least six or seven of us (the winner and all you other guys) who want to participate, so I say let's do it! I believe the meeting is at Jeremy's house, so he will probably have a chili entry too. We also have a lot if chili heads, so heat shouldn't be a problem with anyone's chili. If you can't take the heat..........

STAY OUT OF THE CHILI!!!!

P.S. I'll send out an email to the club about a week in advance, so everyone should know about it.

Yes the meeting this month is at my house, unless someone else wants to step up and take the meeting, as I have had many at my house. I never mind hosting the monthly's just don't want to take the chance away from someone who has not had a chance yet.

I will be posting the meeting annoucement shortly.

The Chilli cook-off sounds fine to me, still not sure if I am going to make a batch, as Chilli is not really something I have even made, therefore don't even know if it is good or not, the wifes ain't bad. So I was thinking of going with a support dish of some kind. Though you never know I might get creative and make a batch.

For the style this month does anyone have any suggestions.

I was thinking either

Cat 10: American Ale
10A: American Pale Ale
10B: American Amber Ale
10C: American Brown Ale

or

Cat 18: Belgain Strong Ale
18A: Belgian Blond Ale
18B: Belgian Dubble
18C: Belgain Triple
18D: Belgian Golden Strong Ale
18E: Belgian Dark Strong Ale

Do we want this to be a catagory or sub catagory style thing. I know it is usually the sub Catagory that we go with. I am trying to keep it something a little on the heavy side for Feb because as spring and summer comes around these are traditionally better for lighter styles.

There are some nice IPA's out there right now (I've been drinking the SN Torpedo this week). I wouldn't mind seeing a hopfest at a meeting. It has been kind of heavy on belgians lately.
