FS/FT 4.5 CF Dorm Fridge and small 12 bottle wine fridge
FS/FT 4.5 CF Dorm Fridge and small 12 bottle wine fridge
I have a large dorm fridge I have used for fermentation and a bottle fridge for a long time. It works great. I gutted the door and it fits every fermenter I have owned (6.5 gal big mouth bubbler, 6 gallon glass, 2-3gal sqaure better bottles) other than my Speidels. $50
Also have a a very small (little larger than a PC tower) wine fridge we never use. $30
Looking for a small 7-9CF chest freezer in trade plus cash on my end. If anyone has one or knows of one for sale under $100 I am interested.
I can get pics and dimensions of either.

Do you have a picture of the dorm fridge? Would it fit a 6.5 gallon bucket?
I just got done building a monstrosity of a collar for my old dorm fridge.. but I might still be interested. We can discuss on Thursday if you will be at the meeting...

I can get a pic tonight showing if a bucket does in fact fit and get pics. I believe it will. I may just build a collar for this and keep it if there is no interest. I just want the ability to have more capacity.

Easy fit. I should just keep it and build a collar for my Speidel

Yeah, your collar idea is probably a good one.

I'd take it if you don't want to keep it. I should have taken a picture of the collar for my smaller dorm fridge.. it's turned into quite a project... but I can now fit two 5 gal converted pin locks in it... let me know tonight...

Let me think about it. My collar idea is super simple. 2x4 frame and 4 eye-hooks and a tie down strap around the back side of the fridge from one side to the other.

That's basically the one I built for my dorm fridge but I painted it (PITA) and had to make it basically a 2x18". I wanted the door to clear for bottles and 2 kegs... and it's the style that you can't bend up the freezer on.
I used two 2x3's and a 2x12... eye hooks and bungee cords. For the magnetic strip to close the door on to I used a drywall metal corner bead...
I'd still like a second small unit for a ferm chamber.. I was going to dual purpose the little dorm fridge or buy a new chest freezer. As you are probably aware my wife is not on board with this and it's easier to sneak in another dorm fridge than a small chest freezer... the chest freezer would otherwise be better for kegs.. I don't know if my collar is tall enough for a 6.5 gal bucket but it's big enough for two 5 gal kegs which I could use as a fermentor too....
If I end up buying something new, though, it will be a chest freezer.. and that'll become the keezer...

I can use the wine fridge. I can set you up with mixed 6 pack from supply in my beer fridge.

Looks good there, Chris.. (Indian Giver.. err.... seller...)....
I need to take photos of mine and post.. since it was a much smaller fridge, it is a lot more kludgy. My collar is almost as big as the fridge itself. I had to bypass the internal thermostat because at "max cool" it only cooled to 42°F (even before conversion). I used a STC-1000+ I hacked myself to do this. I also found that filling the hump with Styrofoam and other unused areas in the fridge helped the compressor to run noticeably less often.
By the way.. If anyone has the A_400P versions of the STC-1000-- I can program (hack) them for you.. let me know... it's worth doing.... If not there is still one seller that has them (guaranteed correct versions)... Brews by Smith.. $19+Ship...
I tried to save the door panel but finally gave up, too.. I didn't realize in how bad of shape it was anyway...

You still want this dorm fridge Fred? I removed the collar, but still have the wood. I picked up another chest freezer and this serves me no purpose anymore. Just let me know ASAP before I put it in my office at work.UndeadFred wrote:Looks good there, Chris.. (Indian Giver.. err.... seller...)....![]()

Re: FS/FT 4.5 CF Dorm Fridge and small 12 bottle wine fridge
I'll have to mull it over. Really I should start looking for a smallish chest freezer. The Dorm fridge for two kegs as I am running it now is not without issues, but that one is more suited for the task than the one I have because it's bigger...
Really, "eventually" I should have a keezer for the kegs and a better dorm fridge for a fermentation chamber. I just don't know when "eventually" is. I'm looking at the very real possibility of having to move from Cedar Rapids to somewhere else if work doesn't pick up soon (I'm already starting the clean up)...and if so those probably won't get moved...
I'll get back to you in a day or two.
