I've never been able to properly batch carbonate a beer. I always either under-carb or over-carb so I decided to give these a try. The packaging (and Joe) said to add 4 tabs/12 oz bottle for normal carbonation.

Has anyone used these before? I bottled on Saturday and the tabs are starting to break up a little. I'm wondering if they degrade entirely or if they sink to the bottom of the bottle like other sediment.

They end up as sediment. I recall more sediment from these than from standard, add sugar to the bottling bucket method. They do work though. I like to have them around when kegging so I can fill a few extra bottles when the mood strikes.

I have used carb tabs like this for a while now. They work pretty well. The only downside is "one size fits all" carbonation levels. I don't notice too much extra sediment in the bottom.

The ones that look like aspirin tablets, where you add 4 - 6 depending on desired carb level, leave behind sediment in the bottom. When I used them, I would gently invert each bottle on day 2 and 3 to make them fully break up and dissolve faster.

The ones where you add only one, and look like throat lozenges, do not seem to leave sediment, but are less flexible, one-size-fits-all.

That said, I never had problems with carb level when just using a measuring cup and non-compacted dextrose powder for a 5gal full batch. I keep the small tablets on hand also though, for when I can't (or don't want to) fit a batch into a keg and have a few bottles to fill.
