Cedar Rapids Brewing Society

This came on a brew setup I bought from Lee. It was used to control his HLT.

Powers up fine, no temp probe included. It's really old and I was told "clunky to use". I'm replacing it with a more modern unit. Somehow this is still for sale in the interwebz for $299 I did find a PDF manual online I printed out and will include it on a flash drive.

Make me an offer or trade me for something brew related.

60048 is Libertyville, IL (I grew up in the Chicago Suburbs and at one time worked in Libertyville)... The phone number listed is 312.

The 312 area code first split right after I got out of high school. November 11, 1989 according to Wikipedia.

So.. that is >26 years old!

Gotta love the vacuum fluorescent display though!

... P.S. 312 is Urban (Ale) now, but included most of Chicago and its suburbs from when the original area codes were invented until 1989. Right now it's the smallest by area area code in the country.

To the best of my knowledge, it was one of the very first digital PIDs on the market. It's damn near impossible to program and it has shitty cold-junction compensation, which means you'll need to seasonally adjust the "DC offset" on the temp readout, but I was able to use it very effectively for the past 8+ years.

Lee, would it run a HLT where absolute precision isn't critical? I'm thinking of moving my current PID to the RIMS tube, and getting another got the HLT.


Does it come with the thermocouple?

It ran my HLT just fine for years. As part of my HERMS setup, I had an expectation of +/- 1 deg accuracy. Granted, I double-checked it against a mechanical thermometer (hence the seasonally-adjusted DC offsets).
