Merry Christmas all. Anyone get some cool stuff for their brewery? I finally got a PH meter. I checked my PH years ago on a couple batches with test strips and seemed OK so I stopped checking. As I make more sours I want to monitor my PH more so I am very excited to finally have one.

It's not equipment, but I got Bamforth's book on Foam. So far I'm very impressed with it. He does a great job explaining foam formation and retention factors beyond the simple stuff like dirty vs clean glassware. For example, step mashing can significantly improve foam stability by increasing local viscosity through generation of additional polysaccharides (i.e. dextrins). I've observed this phenomena in my own beer, but never had a good explanation.

Got a stainless element, vent fan w/controller, utility sink faucet and a larger grain scale.

Order the rest of what I need today. Pick up a spa panel and wiring soon and it's all downhill from there

Nice. I made a Belgian Dubbel yesterday and happened to do a step mash. We'll see how it turns out in 4-5 weeks. Interesting, but I guess beta amylase likes the lower mash temps thus leading to some of the polysaccharide formation. Makes some good sense.

Some nice gifts here. And I thought you all had been very bad. Guess I was wrong. Maybe it is just when I see you. I am sure you all are good most of the time.

New faucet shanks, another flow control faucet, and a BIY gift certificate.

Four 4" stainless shanks to get rid of now

I may be interested in the shanks. Let me know what you are thinking on price.

I got a stuck mash coupled with a hop plugged pump and dip tube!

I guess I wasn't too bad with a weber smokey mountian, too.
