12 years and counting! The craft beer scene in Iowa continues to boom. New national brands are arriving monthly and the list of Local brewpubs and breweries continues to grow. This year will be the biggest and best yet. We will have around 70 breweries and distributors represented pouring over 300 beers. We will have food to purchase. All of the proceeds will go to the American Heart Association. Come enjoy an afternoon in downtown Cedar Rapids, drink some awesome beer, and support a fantastic charity.

It's also Big Brew Day.

So do we have to do a brew that day for our AHA obligations?

If so, then do the minimum we have to some where else like at BIY, maybe down at the North Liberty location? Or we talk to the AHA about doing one another weekend in May at Benz and we had out flyers during the fest.

I don't think there is any way we can do a brew during Benz Beer Fest safely.

As far as I know, we are not required to do the AHA event. I think they would be pleased we were pouring beer for fans along side the pros at a beer festival that day.

No it's not a requirement. Technically I don't even think you need to be a part of a club to participate.

Benz Beer Fest is about 6-weeks away.

If you need to brew so that you can pour at this event....you're probably need to be brewing an ale soon (this weekend maybe?).

I may offer up some of my currently fermenting Tripel brewed with maple sap. Maybe it could be a special release. Would like to taste test first though. I only have 5 gallons and would like to keep most of it for myself. I should have some at the April meeting.

The first one I made for this specifically (irish red ale, Northern Brewer extract kit) does not seem good (brown instead of red, dry, astringent) Might need someone to taste-test it soon and give a second opinion regarding if it is a "dump" and I need a kit replacement (edit: tested it on two family members, they said it was definitely drinkable and even identified the general style -- go figure)

I've also got a Berliner weiss, IPA, and apfelwein going.
edit: apparently you can't leave hard cider on the yeast for 4 months without autolytic flavors creeping in. It was not up to par, so I dumped it and started a 10% cherry cyser

I have 3 or 4 beers that should be ready.
