I realize it will be Valentines Day (my apologies to your spouse or significant other), but who would be available to judge for the American Stout competition next Sunday, Feb. 14th.

We could start late after noon (between 4-5) or early evening (between 6-7).

I am negotiating with The Quarter Barrel to host us, but nothing is set in stone; Lion Bridge and Brick's are my back-up locations.

We could get by with 4-judges, but I would like to have at least six participating.

Please reply to this post if you can participate; and if one or either time frame works for you.

I'm available. Either time block works OK for me.

I could likely make the earlier time slot work if it's at Quarter Barrel or Lion Bridge since I'll have to bring my kids.

We are still looking for judges. We could get by with another 2, but another 3-4 would be ideal.

Please sign-up if have the time and inclination to participate.

To assist with the judging, I am plan to have one or two commercial examples, as specified by the BJCP Beer Style Guidelines – 2015 Edition, available to the judges for calibration. I believe this will a useful tool and will also assist those who are new to judging or new to the style.

Please PM me if you have any questions.

Good idea Daryl. I think a calibration beer is a good idea. More than one is ideal or some folks will want every beer they taste to be same as calibration. Two or more calibrates better.

I am proud of all of you that can help out on Valentines Day. Good work people. We don't do Valentines at my house but not sure I can get away on Sunday regardless. I can't judge anyway as I entered a beer.

What's the final scoop? Are we on for this Sunday? When/Where?

We have the minimum complement to judge...so Sunday is a go...I'm calling it for 4 PM.

I am still waiting on confirmation from Quarter Barrel, which I should receive word today. But if not QB, we'll convene at LB.

And...if anyone else would like to participate as a judge, just post here.

Thanks,
D

What calibration beers are you thinking of? Sierra Nevada Stout and newly available Avery Out of Bounds Stout are fairly representative of the style and available locally. Deschutes Obsidian works too.

There is a big grove stout on tap at quarter barrel. Just don't know if it's an American stout

I can only make it if it's after 6:00. I have a prior obligation from 4-530 Sunday.
