Bacon-N-Hops Fest (August 13 2016)

Post by karl »

We're just two weeks from this event in Manchester. MADCO will be pouring homebrew.

Are we planning on sending a team to support them?

I probably cannot go, but can send some beer.

I got an email from this event today, asking if we are able to make it. Any interest in pouring? I know I will be in Madison for Great Taste.

I never paid the deposit --was waiting for the green light. It seems like a PITA as they require a deposit, us to set up our own tent for serving beer, bring everything we needed, and only 2 people could get admission.

... I guess we still may be able to go, but unsure if anyone is willing to sign up for the tasks...

And, presumably, we provide our own table and ice?

My thoughts. They make us throw down $100 just to ensure we will show up. We get the money back when we stay until a certian time.

Still, not a good way to be hospitable to your guest clubs.

Has anyone volunteered to go? I'll send beer, but I can't go.

I say forget it. Charging a deposit is bullshit. Only 2 admissions is bullshit. Who needs it?

While I won't be as blunt, I agree with Randy. It looks like we can't do this one. Many of our members are at the homebrew club ran Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison that weekend.

Also, we would be offering our beer for free to the public, not making a profit. It is weird we would need to put down $100 to secure a spot. We are not a vendor. We have poured at many events and giving away our beer is all we have needed to do. Maybe a better arrangement can be worked out next year. With less than a week to go, I say we don't go.

I'm OK with that decision, as I couldn't attend anyway.

Can an Officer (Tim or Matt) contact MADCO before this weekend and explain why we aren't coming? I think that would be a nice courtesy gesture, as we expect them at our Festival.

I get the deposit part, they would cash it in the case of no-show, and our check would be returned once our stand was set-up. This event is fairly remote, so I can see that they would want some accountability of vendors showing up.

But....to have two people responsible for all of the coordination of gathering the beer, getting the necessary equipment together (including tent, table, chairs), transportation, set-up, tear-down, and clean-up....and we would be providing the sampling glasses (would probably use what we use for our happy hour) sounds like a bit much.
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout

In the queue: Irish Red, American IPA

For vendors, yes, I understand. But, for other clubs that are volunteering participation out of goodwill, no.

And drinkware too! That's too much.
