I am very busy for the next couple weeks -- is anyone interested in picking / using / sharing them?
My fatherinlaw planted some hops this spring, just as a fast-growing vine to decorate a trellis.
I noticed that they look like there's a ton of flowers that might be ready to use, and he said to take them as he doesn't brew (yet).
There's CTZ, Centennial, Cascade, and something else, that I can find out if anyone cares.

Hmm.. I do have a food dehydrator. I tried growing Centennial for the last two years and apparently I completely suck. But.. maybe I should drop in on my old program manager and your father in law and see if I can get those before they rot. Very tempting....

Try a fan and a screen or make your own hop oast versus a food dehydrator. I used a dehydrator once and the heat it uses is harsh on the hops. Made them taste awful. Like really awful!

He is on vacation, just let me know if you are going to go get them. I did not even realize they would produce the first year.

Last year I laid a box fan down on the horizontal, bought a bunch of cheap furnace filters and layered hops on the filters. I stacked them up on the fan and bungee corded them together. I ran the fan in my garage for 24 hours, and the hops were perfectly dry and ready to package.

It's the Alton Brown jerky technique.

I read somewhere suggested temperature was 135 degrees. How hot was too hot?

Located within reasonable distance of CR? I might be willing to swing out tomorrow and pick them. I can dehydrate them, vac seal in small packages and distribute to club.
