BUNGED 2017: The Year of the Cereal Killers
Posted: Tue Sep 13, 2016 11:28 am
The manhunt begins NOW.
The rules are:
1) You must craft an extraordinary brew using at least one multi-serving box of a breakfast cereal of your choice per 5 gallons of finished product
(i.e. if you do not want to make only 1 gallon and you have a 15 oz box of cereal, you would need to use at least 3 oz of cereal in your recipe).
2) At the designated turn-in you must submit three 12-ounce bottles according to the Club's quarterly competition rules. You must claim the style category and subcategory of your beer upon submission.
3) Along with your sample submission, you must submit your grist and hop schedule, specifying grain and cereal in pounds and hops in ounces; along with a brief explanation of your beer.
4) There will be at least two events associated with this competition: 1) A Turn-in and Judging event; and 2) Pour event at the Beer Nuts Happy Hour.
5) Your brew must participate in both events to qualify for any award.
6) You must register by December 10th (the annual Beer Nuts Party). All we need to know: 1) Your intent to participate; and 2) How many beers you plan to submit; if you submit one and your plan was more than 1, no problem.
PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER NOW - once we have kicked this concept around a bit, I will open a separate registration posting - should be able to do that by or before Oct 1.
Turn in will be at or before the February Club Meeting; judging will occur soon after submission and prior to the pour event.
There will be at least two awards; one for best brew, and a second will be "the people's" favorite. The merits of your beer will be judged against the style/category you select (flavors induced by the cereal is not a negative). Additional points will be added according to metrics that are yet to be determined.
On February 26th, the Cereal Killers pour event will be held in conjunction with the CR Beer Nut Happy Hour, the general public will be allowed to vote for their favorite brew. To support that event, you must bring or provide at least a half gallon of your brew to share with the public.
We still have details to work out, but this is what we know at this time.....post with your thoughts and recommendations.
