Just thought I'd start a thread on Pat's Mead Challenge, aka, M to the Fourth Power (Mad McCusker's Mead Melee)!!

Pat can fill in the details.

You can make anything in the BJCP 2015 Mead Guidelines.

http://bjcp.org/docs/2015_Guidelines_Mead.pdf

Turn in will be 1st quarter of 2018. So you have 15 months or so.

I will provide the winner with one gallon of honey (probably basswood, but I may splurge on something else).

Meaning that you have less than 3-months or so to make your mead, if you want to have any aging time in the bottle.

I'm in....anyone else?

Or, do ya just want to give up now....cuz my honey liquor is going to be the best!

PAT - we are going to need to setup a special tasting session for this one! Maybe a tasting Tech Meeting at Lion Bridge if we have enough interest. But no worries, we've some time to plan.

That's going to take a lot of single serving 'honey sauce' packets :p

Hmm.. I should have seen this months ago. I tend to make ghetto meads as well. Interesting. I'm tempted to try to make a so-called quick mead just to see how different they taste than then properly aged ones. I could take one for the team for this. I tend to make ghetto meads anyway.

I'm guessing turn in will be qty 1-750ml or qty 2-12 Oz vessels?

I hadn't thought about it. I assume we will try to be consistent with BJCP practice of 2 12-oz bottles. But I don't think we want to turn away 375-ml or 750-ml bottles that have been properly corked. I am open to recommendations.
