Here's the short of the long,Hello Beer Nuts Brewers!
We at Lark are excited to announce a unique home-brew mash competition; The Mexican Mash Off.
We will be brewing up a large batch of wort of a Stout (Pre Boil SG 1.054-1.060) on March 25th. We will dish out the unboiled wort (7 gallon increments) to all home brewers who sign up. The task is to brew up a Mexican Stout. The wort will be ready at noon.
We will have space in the parking lot for brewers to brew it here (water hook up and ice provided), or if you wish to take it home to brew, you are more than welcome. If you are planning on brewing here, feel free to come down an hour early and set up your gear.
You will receive the wort for a small fee of $7 (per 7 gallons - no limit) to help cover the grain costs. Boil your wort, add your own special ingredients (Chocolate, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Peppers, etc.), your own hops, adjuncts, and yeast, and make it your own. Basically, the sky’s the limit. Trick this batch out how you see fit.
Kitchen Wines and Brew Shop in Cedar Falls will be offering 25% off to all brewers for any ingredients needed for the event. City Harvest Hops in Cedar Falls will be offering an additional 10% (35% total) for any purchase of their hops from Kitchen Wines. You can purchase ahead of time, or contact info@kitchenwines.com directly and they will bring the ingredients to the event for you. They will also have a tent set up with ingredients available at the event for last minute purchases.
We will have a large tasting event the day after Cinco de Mayo, Saturday, May 6th, at 2pm. We will have our conference rooms set up with serving stations/tables/rinse stations/glasses/etc. for all brewers involved. You can set up as early as 10am. Serve your beer to all event patrons and enjoy samples from your fellow brewers! Tickets for the tasting event will cost $10.00, and every brewer will be given a +1 ticket to invite a guest free of charge. We will have awards and prizes for winners of both the popular vote as well as from a panel of guest judges. There will also be street tacos for sale for the event.
Your commitment in advance will help us to scale the wort batch properly. Please send your name, phone number, club affiliation, and how many gallons you would like to reserve to our event email address, info@larkbrewing.com , at your earliest convenience if you would like to register to participate. Please share this email with any and all home brewers that you know. This is going to be a blast!!!
