Golden Strong Ale

Post by tompb »

I made a Golden Strong Ale today. I'm going to try Doc's method from the Jamil Show. I'll wait til it's at full ferment, 2-3 days in, then add the sugar. The recipe is just 24 pounds Pils and 6 pounds sugar.

Also, I screwed up and had my first stuck sparge. While setting my bed I opened the ball vavle all the way and sucked grain into my manifold. Lesson learned.

If you batch sparged, you wouldn't have to worry about that. I always open my valve wide open.

I can usually open mine all the way once I set the bed. I have a 1/2" valve that will draw quite a bit of liquid and apparently grain if it's full on. It was even all Pils, no wheat. I think that's why I got carried away and cracked it wide open too soon. I ended up knocking the manifold off and running it through a hand held strainer. So essentially I did a batch sparge.
