I'm headed to Austin at the end of the month, any good recommendations? Beer, food or otherwise? I'm sure I'll try to make the trek out to Jester King, but I'll mostly be in the downtown area sans car.

If you really dig BBQ, the Austin area is one of the best in the country for brisket and links.

If you're willing to stand in line, Franklin BBQ is the Mecca for brisket (plus, other stuff!) They only serve lunch (11am - 3pm; closed on Mondays) and folks start lining up before 7am most days (sounds like Great Taste tickets) and they sell out everyday, usually by 2pm.

If you have transportation and time, drive up to Lockhart and hit the Grandaddies of them all Kreuz Market and Smitty's Market. Several other great spots in town, too.

Or head out to Driftwood to The Salt Lick for their legendary beef ribs. Bring your cooler as it's a BYO spot.

Thanks Tony, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
