Big Grove Wort Rally and Pour Event

Post by jjpeanasky »

What: Big Grove is partnering with FilmScene to put on a Homebrewfest and Wort Rally event, similar to our previous wort rallies with Lion Bridge. There will be a people's choice voting for the wort rally beers. All homebrew is welcome and encouraged for the event, as it is a fundraiser for FilmScene and a general tasting will be held.

When: Big Grove is planning on wort pickup the first week of December. The event itself would be on January 20th (Saturday, one week before BrrFest).

Where: The event, and wort drop-off/pick-up would be at the Iowa City Big Grove location.

Wort: Planned to be the Arms Race wort, and it will be $15 per 5 gallons. The expectation is that if you pick up wort, you will participate in the tasting event.

Other Notes: They have requested that we have an idea of the number of participants by November 15th. This is the day before our next meeting, but I can always send the numbers to them after our meeting. Looks like THIRSTY may be participating too, haven't heard about any other clubs.

Please post if you intend on participating, and how many gallons of wort you'd like. If there are any questions, post them up and I'll pass them on.

Cheers!

I'd be in for 10, but if someone wants to split that would work for me as well.

You can do only 5 gallons (5 gallon increments that is)....unless you want to split 5 gallons (with another member).

hm. Not sure if I'm interested in driving for 3 hours (30 minutes each way for drop-off and pick-up and event) for just 5 gallons of generic pale ale base. I'd probably need 15 gallons to play with to make it worthwhile.
I know that isn't exactly the point, but, my time is limited.

Yes, sorry, 5 gallons. I'd still split if someone is interested.

I am sure can work out a shuttle service of some type; we could have a vessel drop off in CR the day before the event...and a wort pick up the day of or day after the event.....both times we would meet at the same place somewhere in CR.

thanks daryl, something like that would definitely be helpful.
Anyone know if they said there was a reason for limiting volume ? (or do they just not realize that there may be demand for more?)

No limit to volume, just going 5 gallons at a time.

They would like numbers by Wednesday, but I can wait until the meeting Thursday to send them.

Like Josh said, can get more than 5 gallons. They just pricing in 5 gallon increments

I tentatively plan to pour at the event but will make my own wort.

As for pick up, if you have the time, I don't think it is a bad excuse to drive to a cool brewery not far away. If you have not been to the location, do yourself a favor and check it out. Very cool.

I'm in for 10 gallons and might be interested in the wort shuttle although it's a good excuse to go to Big Grove Iowa City which as Matt says is very cool if you haven't been
